Whether you’re a small business, a sole trader or an employee needing to work outside the company office, a co-working space could be just what you need. But how do you choose one that’s right for you? Here are Impact Brixton’s top tips for selecting a suitable co-working space.
Know Your Needs
People use co-working spaces for a range of different reasons, and it’s important to be clear about why you want to use one, so you can make sure you choose one that suits your needs. Are you looking for a short commute? Facilities such as a laser printer, or a registered business address? Do you want sociable co-workers, or access to professional development programmes? It might help to list things in order of priority, in case you need to make compromises.
Narrow it Down
An internet search for co-working spaces in your chosen location will bring up lots of options, which you can narrow down using your list of priorities. It’s worth asking around among anyone you know who uses a co-working space; like most things in life, a personal recommendation is worth a lot. Then you can make a shortlist of a few spaces to visit..
Do a Trial Day
The only way to find out what a co-working space is really like is to do a trial day, like the one we offer at Impact Brixton for £35 (refundable when you sign up for any membership). Some people know that they want to join us as soon as they walk through the door into our bright, airy space in the centre of Brixton. Others are sold after they meet our friendly community and learn about our events and social impact programmes. Most, understandably, want to test out the WiFi and the coffee (they’re both top-notch, too). By spending the day in a space, you can gain the confidence you need to take the plunge and sign up.
Your Space, Your Choice
Finding the right co-working space affects every aspect of your working life, from physical comfort to professional opportunities. It should be a place that motivates you to get up in the morning and go to work. We hope that Impact Brixton is that place for all our members, and we’re looking forward to welcoming the people who haven’t quite found us yet.
