FAQ

GENERAL

What is a coworking space?

A coworking space is a place for freelancers, entrepreneurs, workers-from-home and sometimes small businesses to come together and work. It’s a home away from home for people who need an office, and a chance to connect with other like-minded individuals.

At Impact Brixton, community is at the heart of everything we do. As well as providing a light and airy space to work, along with meeting rooms, a podcast studio and event space, we also hold members lunches, provide free tea and coffee, host games nights and more to help our community get to know each other. It’s the perfect opportunity to share ideas, find collaborators, or even just make a friend.

Flexible membership plans make it easy to join the Impact Brixton community, no matter what your budget. And thanks to our Impact Brixton Exchange Programme, individuals from lower socioeconomic backgrounds can access the space at a hugely reduced cost. Get in touch for more information.

Are you still open as a result of Covid-19?

Yes, we appreciate that not everyone is able to work from home, and for that reason, we are still open. Safety is our number one priority, and you can read more about our Covid response here.

Can I take calls in the hot desking area?

Of course. Our hot deskers are very welcome to take calls, though we do suggest the use of headphones.

As a member, you can book one of our phone booths, free of charge in our exclusive member’s app.

We also have small meeting rooms available which may be more comfortable for longer calls, particularly if there’s more than one of you on the call. These are available at a discounted rate for our members.

I want to set up my own company, using Impact Brixton as my registered address. Can anyone set up a company in the UK?

Yes! There are just two rules. To qualify as a company director in the UK you must be 16 years or older, and have NOT been declared bankrupt or banned from being a company director by a court.

Can I use this address as my Companies House Registered Address for my Business?

Absolutely!

What will my new company address be, if I register my business with Impact Brixton?

17a Electric Lane, Brixton, London, SW9 8LA.

What does it mean that you’re a social enterprise?

Impact Brixton is a Community Interest Company. That means that we’re a not-for-profit company dedicated to giving back to the local community.

Since our original inception in 2014, Impact Brixton has supported over 2000 start-ups, and brought together thousands of freelancers and social change-makers in South London.

We have created a space and culture for local entrepreneurs to care equally about their social and financial impact, and our new larger workspace will now provide the capacity to better fulfil the needs of the community.

Projects like Female Founders Brixton, Open Project Nights and The Black Culture Market, Peoples Fridge are all a result of our early work, and we are proud to support the community with our ongoing programmes.

Over the next five years, we aim to support ten thousand local small businesses owners as well as impact the wider community by providing affordable workspace, access to a network and free educational and empowerment programmes for business owners and entrepreneurs who support and impact our community.

We aim to make meaningful and long-lasting connections with other enterprises in the local community, working together to give back to Brixton.

SPACE HIRE

How do I host an event in your space?

We love it when our space is alive with events. We have two event spaces available to hire, and we’re launching a brand new one very soon.

You can book the space through our website. We ask that you tell us a bit about your event so that we can make sure we provide everything possible to make sure it’s a hit. We’ve got a sound system, speakers, extra tables and chairs.

PS, the lovely people at Brixton Distillery make rum on our site and they love to cater for events. Get in touch if you want us to introduce you!

Can I film at Impact Brixton?

Totally! We’ve put a lot of love into refurbishing our space to make sure it’s camera-ready, so we’re always happy for people to film in our space. You’ll need to book the space in advance, and steer clear of the communal areas so that you don’t get our members on camera (unless you’ve asked them first, of course!).

Lots of people prefer to film outside of our opening hours to have a bit more control over the sound in the space. That’s totally fine. We’ll need to charge you a little bit extra, just to cover the costs of opening, but we’re really happy to be flexible with our timings. Give us a call to talk it through!

What kind of events do you host at Impact Brixton?

We love it when our space is alive with events. We’ve hosted everything from book launches to open mic nights to networking events and more. We try to become whatever Brixton needs us to become, so get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.

Do you offer private office space?

We do our best to accommodate the needs of the local community, and we do host a number of small companies. If you’d like to chat about moving into Impact Brixton, please give us a call and we’ll see what we can do.

Do you provide meeting rooms?

Yes, we have a number of meeting rooms available to hire. You can check them out here

Do I need to be a member of Impact Brixton to hire your meeting rooms and event space?

No, you don’t have to be a member of Impact Brixton to hire our meeting rooms and event space. You can book through the website or give us a call with your preferred dates. Members do get up to 70% discount, though!

Can Connect members use the space?

All Connect members receive a 40% discount on meeting rooms and space hire as well as day passes for just £15. Just log in to the members app to make a booking.

I’m a member, can my guests use the space

We can allow members to book guest passes for non-members (at the discretion of Impact Brixton).  Hosts will need to add the day pass to the member’s account as it is not available to add from the app.

What is your cancellation policy for meeting rooms and event spaces?

We try to be as flexible as possible, but as we’re a not-for-profit social enterprise, it’s really important that we stabilise our cash flow as much as possible. For that reason, we do charge a 50% cancellation fee if you cancel after the cancellation period.

IMPACT DAY

POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

We’ve been keeping a close eye on the ever-changing government guidelines, and in light of recent restrictions, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the launch of Impact Day until further notice. Due to the current situation, we feel this isn’t the right time to be encouraging people to travel and gather in our space. This is an initiative we feel really passionate about, and we can’t wait to get it off the ground as soon as it is safe to do so. We’ll keep you posted. Until then, stay safe and look after each other. Love, Impact Brixton.
