Being an entrepreneur comes with all sorts of challenges. When you’re setting up a business, there are three things to keep in mind.
- Networking is key: As an entrepreneur, your network is your greatest asset. You may meet people who can support all aspects of your business – whether as employees, clients, suppliers or contacts within your industry. And remember, you’ve got a lot to offer in return! Opportunities to trade knowledge, swap skills and compare notes are priceless, so make sure you’re putting yourself out there.
Networking can be intimidating, but there are ways to make it fun. Every Last Friday of the month at Impact Brixton, we throw a bash for freelancers. We provide a locally-sourced dinner, free rum punch and tons of activities to meet and connect with local business owners. It’s the perfect way to meet and collaborate.
- Build your brand: Your audience can only get on board with what you’re offering if you give them an obvious idea of who you are and what you’re doing. Give your business a strong voice that your audience can trust and recognise. It’s what will make you stand out from all those other businesses out there.
Look at your business from the outside. If you were coming across your website for the fist time, what would you think your business is all about? It can be useful to identify three keywords that you would use to define your business and use them to shape all your brand decisions. What does a bold, innovative and reliable enterprise look like?
To build your brand, tools like social media can be beneficial. Make sure you’re not just sell, sell, selling on your pages – talk to your audience, ask for their input, start a conversation. The more they know about your brand, the more likely they are to invest in it!
- Find a community: There is loads of support out there for entrepreneurs setting up a new business. Whether it’s workshops, classes, networking events or workspaces, there are plenty of opportunities to learn and connect with like-minded people.
At Impact Brixton, our whole mission is to support the business community in Lambeth. Whether we’re throwing a party for freelancers or running a dedicated series of workshops, we’re always looking for new ways to help people connect and collaborate. And if you hotdesk in our space, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to chat with other entrepreneurs! Check out our events and find a membership option that works for you – if you’re not looking for a space just yet, you can always sign up to our virtual office (free for local entrepreneurs!)
